As we’ve seen, the total is influenced by everything from team strategy and player talent to weather forecasts and betting market psychology. Betting on totals is better at a time when the high performance of the upcoming match is clearly visible. But it is important to understand that there is no strategy for Total Over that guarantees a 100% win, unlike the same bookmaker’s surebets that generate income for any outcome of the event.

Lots of betting newbies falsely assume that betting on totals is possible only in pre-match mode. In fact, total bets are much more often used in lives, because there the bettor may be able to catch a good rate and pick the right moment to bet.

History has shown that football games played in rain and snow don’t stray too far away from the norm, but heavy wind can really shake things up. It is important to pay attention to weather forecasts early in the week. Games where 20+ mph winds are in the forecast will likely see a drastic dip in their total from the time the lines open until the time the game is played.
